Patricia Ann “Patty” Moorhead Rich
August 26, 1956 – September 28, 2014
Patricia Ann “Patty” Moorhead Rich, 58, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, September 28, 2014 at her home in Bountiful, Utah. Two months ago she was diagnosed with cancer and she spent her remaining time making cherished memories with her family.
She was born on August 26, 1956 in Warren, Ohio to Cecil Allen and Evelyn Jean (Needler) Moorhead. She grew up in Ohio, Georgia, and Germany. After high school she moved to Virginia with her family. It was there that she attended a back-to-school night and first laid eyes on her younger sister’s cute Math teacher, Martin Ralph Rich. They started dating, fell in love and eventually married on August 6, 1977 in Chesterfield, Virginia. After a few years living in Roy, Utah and Frederick, Maryland they settled in Fredericksburg, Virginia and lived there for 28 years. This past year they moved to Utah where all their children and grandchildren live.
She was an accomplished homemaker who worked over 11,900 days and raised five (mostly normal) children. In her early married life, she took a cake decorating class and used her skill to decorate countless awesome birthday cakes for her children. Despite not being able to smell, she is estimated to have made at least 5,434 delicious home cooked meals. She enjoyed reading books, playing with her grandchildren, doing jigsaw puzzles and being with family and friends. She was always serving others in her quiet way. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a great testimony of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her husband; sons Dan (Sarah) of South Jordan, Utah and Jared (Gina) Rich of Draper, Utah; daughter Mary (Matt) Harris of Herriman, Utah; and sons David of Bountiful, Utah and Matt Rich of Curitiba, Brazil; three grandsons Zac Rich, Jameson and Tanner Harris; three granddaughters Madison and Audrey Rich, and Elaine Harris; sisters Teresa Goffigan and Darlene Alexander both of La Cross, Virginia. She is also survived by several aunts including Marlene Shackelford of Hampton, Virginia and Sandy Cope of Newton Falls, Ohio who lovingly took care of her during her last week. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jason Rich, and a sister Sonya Reamey.
