Patricia Gail Gaddie Stevenson

October 30, 1929 — August 3, 2020

Patricia Gail Gaddie Stevenson, Age 90, died peacefully in her home on August 3, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  She was born on October 30, 1929, in Sugar City, Idaho to Sherwood Clark and Ethel Zimmerman Gaddie.
As a child, she traveled with her family throughout the West, following her father’s job postings with the Utah-Idaho Sugar Company. A final job transfer landed the family in Salt Lake City, where she attended Granite High School.
Patricia lived her life in the Western U.S., but traveled the world from Bangkok to Bali, through both the Suez and Panama canals, from the Baltic Sea to the South Pacific. Through her many travels, she assembled an impressive collection of photo slides featuring her smartly-dressed and impeccably- coordinated figure standing before pyramids, cathedrals, and natural wonders.  At dinner parties and Christmas evening open houses, there was a proper dish and utensil for everything and everything was in its place. Summer cookouts were enhanced by the beautifully-tended gardens surrounding her home. Her attention to detail and care for her belongings grew out of a depression-era childhood and a natural inclination to cultivate beauty and elegance.
Patricia was a single mother and a career woman before single working moms were a noteworthy demographic. She worked a number of jobs before landing with the founders of Gastronomy, Inc., where she would work for the next 40 years.  The owners of Gastronomy were her “three gentlemen” and with them she found a professional home that she loved.  Through loyalty, hard work, and good sense, filled the roles of Comptroller, Vice President and ultimately acting CFO of that company before her retirement in early 2019.  She passed along her tenacity and work ethic to her only daughter. She was an active and involved grandmother and an inspiration to her only grandchild.
When most people begin to think about retiring, Patricia doubled down on working hard.  In addition to continuing to work full time, she began writing avidly during her lunch hours and at night, fulfilling a lifelong dream of becoming an author. She combined her love of travel with her love of writing, tracking down settings for her many murder mysteries. She leaves a home office crammed full of hand-written notes, partially-typed manuscripts, and five published novels, proudly displayed on the shelf by her old typewriter.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter Jenafer Stevenson Dunn (Preston “Marty” Martineau); her good friend and former son-in-law Sam Dunn; her granddaughter Allyson Dunn Delnore (Abe); her great-grandchildren Eli and Sebastian; her niece and nephews Craig (Catherine), Marci, and James Omer; numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and her favorite literary creation, Del Channing.  Preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Rachel LaDonna Omer.
