Panagiotis Koukoulias

October 27, 1936 — December 12, 2020

On Saturday, December 12, 2020, our beloved husband, brother, dad, and papou, Panagiotis “Pete”, lost his long battle with Alzheimer’s. Pete was born on October 27, 1936 to Agathoklis and Magdalini Koukoulias in Elefsina, Greece. Pete immigrated to the United States with his parents and 2 sisters and settled in Salt Lake City in 1955. He was known for having an extraordinary work ethic and worked many jobs to support his family.
During his time working at the Hotel Newhouse, he met the love of his life, Ione Gurr. They married in 1962 and raised 3 children together. With his wife Ione by his side, they owned and operated the family-owned business “Greek Souvlaki #2” from 1974 until they retired in 2004.
After retirement, Pete enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching the Utah Jazz and Real Soccer, and spending time with his wife and grandkids.
Pete is survived by his wife; Ione, daughters; Ladeane (David), Christina, and Trisha (daughter in-law), his sisters; Mary and Bessie, 7 grandkids, 8 great-grandkids, and many loving nieces and nephews here in the United States and in Greece. He was preceded in death by his parents, son; George, and brothers in-law; Lee and Theodore.
Special thank you to all the doctors who cared for Pete and to all the staff and nurses of Canyon Home Care and Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 17th at 11:00 AM at Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church. A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM prior to the services. Burial will be at Memorial Redwood Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
May his Memory Be Eternal.
