Ophelia Sanchez

February 2, 1918 — February 25, 2015

Opal Sanchez passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Deseret Care Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. Services will be Wednesday, March 4th at Salt Lake Christian Center (4300 South 700 East Salt Lake City, Utah) starting at 10:00 a.m. for viewing and services beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Redwood Memorial (6500 South Redwood Road) officiated by Pastor Ray Smith.
Opal was born February 2, 1918 in Saguache, Colorado to Henry and Flora Torres. Opal was the oldest of 5 siblings, Erma Valdez, Kathrine Ortiz, Lipio “Lee” Lovato (Beth Lovato), Sally Sandaval (Danny) whom she loved very much. Opal was married to Samuel Sanchez and is survived by her son Michael Sanchez and daughter Geri Sanchez as well as all of her grandchildren (Portia, Bobby, Chris, Joey, Nick and Devin) along with a multitude of great grandchildren.
Opal embodied compassion in everything she did, never turning her back from anyone who needed help. She spent much of her life being both a supportive mother and grandmother to more than just her immediate family and was called Grandma by many. She spent time throughout her amazing life traveling around the world, visiting multiple countries, and doing missionary work; she helped to build churches and improve living conditions for those in need. She was an active member of the prison outreach program, trying to bring the hope and the love of Jesus Christ to those who may not have known him. Other than her family, few things brought her as much joy as talking with people about Jesus and the joy she felt having him in her heart.
The family would like to convey our appreciation to those who helped make her last remaining time here as comfortable and filled with love as possible. They would like to thank James and Jenny Manchego for the emotional support and love given. The staff at Deseret Care Facility, her hospice care providers, and Redwood Memorial.
