O. Glade Nelson

May 8, 1927 – March 17, 2022
Orup Glade Nelson, age 94, of West Valley City, Utah, passed away at his home on March 17, 2022. Glade was born May 8, 1927, to Oskar Gottfrid Nelson and Lois Naomi Mitchell in Upalco, Utah.
Growing up as a cowboy in the Uinta Basin (his father was a first generation homesteader), he enlisted in the military in 1946.  After starting college, he accepted a call to serve a two and a half year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint in Stockholm, Sweden from 1950 to 1952. He married Cleone LeCheminant August 20, 1953, in the St. George, Utah Temple. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1955 with a bachelor’s degree in education. Over the next 32 years he worked as an elementary school teacher first in Roosevelt, Utah and later retiring from Granite School district in Salt Lake County.
Glade and Cleone went on to serve together as missionaries in the Honduras-Belize mission, Stockholm Temple, and the Nauvoo Temple. He served throughout his life in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wherever he was called, including bishop and a counselor in the stake presidency.  He was a past president of the John Pack Family Association.
Glade is survived by his wife, Cleone, and his six children: Patricia (Kim) Simmons of Salem, Utah; David (Debbra) of Green Acres, Washington; Steven (Susan) of Gig Harbor, Washington; Janet (David) Christensen of Boise, Idaho; Laura (Trent) Passey of West Valley City, Utah; Paul (Sylvia) of West Valley City, Utah; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
