Norman (Norm) Steel

December 11, 1928 — January 30, 2022

Norman L Steel
1928-2022
Norman (Norm) Steel was a caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend.  He passed away January 30th, 2022 at his home in South Jordan Utah of natural causes.
Norm was born to Belva & Leonard Steel on December 11, 1928 in Lark, Utah. Where he also attended Lark Elementary, Bingham Junior High, and graduated with the class of 1947 from Bingham High School, where he not only played on the State Champion football and baseball teams, but he also served as the Senior Class Secretary.
He loved to share stories from the time that he proudly served our country as an Aerial Photographer in the US Navy during the Korean conflict.
On April 30, 1965 he married his wife, Mariel and together they raised four children: Leonard (Kim), John (Erica), Edward ‘Eddie’ (Jose), and DeeAnn Huffman (Reggie). He is also survived by his sister, Carol Michaelsen (Royal), and sister-in law Gloria Steel.
Norm adored each of his 7 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren.
Norm worked in several underground mine jobs in Lark and Bingham Utah where he retired after 40 years of service as a locomotive engineer at Kennecott Copper.
He loved making memories with his family by teaching his kids how to hunt and fish (which included hunting night-crawlers many summer nights with flashlights out in the yard after the sun went down). Other memories included scaring everyone by driving perilously close to cliff edges during camping trips.  You could always find Norm puttering out in the yard most nights and weekends where he loved to take care of his animals, tend to his garden and he loved to start the occasional small fire to clear weeds from the ditches (or to upset mom, we never could tell) the night before irrigating his well-loved yard.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Garth.
