Norma Jeanne Richards Spencer passed from this life August 23, 2022. She was born April 10, 1925, the fifth of five children born to Arthur and Grace Macdonald Richards at their home in Montpelier, Idaho.
Norma graduated from Montpellier High School and moved with her parents to Pocatello, Idaho where she attended Idaho State College and met her husband, Earl E. “Bud” Spencer. She worked as a secretary for Union Pacific Railroad and married Earl after his return from naval service in the South Pacific, August 16, 1946. They made homes in Pocatello and Moscow, Idaho, Schenectady and Syracuse, New York and Moraga, California.
Upon Earl’s retirement from General Electric in 1987, they lived in Bountiful, Utah, where Earl passed away in 2004.
Norma lived in Scottsdale, Arizona 2007 – 2012, where she enjoyed a new experience of life in the desert and an opportunity to be acquainted with the unique plant and animal life and gorgeous skies above. Wherever Norma and Earl lived, they had lovely gardens and interesting trees.
Norma moved to Temecula, California in 2012 and in 2018 she returned permanently to Salt Lake City.
From infancy, Norma was especially musical, and she performed early in her life, first singing, then playing piano. Beginning as a teen, she was playing organ and directing choirs. A gifted musician, Norma has been involved in church and community for her entire life.
She is survived by her four children: Susan (Martin) Zmolek of Billings, Montana, Scott (Louise) Spencer of Bountiful, Utah, Alison (Joseph) Kruchek of Scottsdale, Arizona and Glen (Melissa) Spencer of Mill Creek, Utah and 19 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.Service Information
