Norma Higgins

June 6, 1937 — June 7, 2014

Norma Ann Libby Higgins, age 77, went to be with the Lord on June 7, 2014. She was born on June 6, 1937 in Wichita, Kansas to Norman Edmund and Annabelle Libby. She married Wallace Winfield Higgins on August 8. 1958. She is survived by her children; Robert Higgins and Cheryl Higgins Knight (Phil); grandchildren: Jordan, Morgan, Riley, Bailey, and Braedon; siblings: Edmund Libby (Rogene), Ruth Libby Haithcock (George), Joy Libby Olsen (Steve) and many nieces and nephews and cousins. Preceded in death by parents, Gregory (son), Curtis Joseph –C.J. (Grandson) and many aunts and uncles.
Besides being a wife, mother and grandmother, her life was filled with eternally-meaningful accomplishments. She had a triumphant entrance into Heaven.
Her life was ministry. Many Heaven-hungry people came to the Lord because of her, directly and indirectly. No doubt, many were the person who welcomed her into God’s presence. She was a spiritual force equal to that of any pastor or evangelist.
As a wife, the devotion to her husband was for 56 years. His ministry was impacted, immeasurably, by her. From learning accounting and managing the business of affairs of his ministry to providing wise counsel and being “on stage”, his ministry was her ministry. The two were one flesh in marriage and in life.
As a mother, she is a woman who deserves that her children “rise up and call her blessed.” Her children never doubted her love or devotion. With the help of God, she endeavored to raise them in the “nurture and admonition of the Lord.” Her example before them was a reflection of Christ that will guide them as they get older. As a grandmother, she was equally devoted and loving to her grandchildren.
Perhaps she is most known for her music. Early in life, she was trained by the Director of the St. Louis Opera and could have been in opera. Yet, being a servant of God, she was called to out-of-the-way towns where she ministered with her husband. Even though she did not sing on stage, she did sing in front of many people, who were blessed by her. Even though she did not find earthly fame, she gained eternal fame.
As one Christian song says:
“Holy, holy, is what the angels sing,
And [she] expect[s] to help them make the courts of Heaven ring;
But when [she] sing[s] redemption’s story, they will fold their wings,
For angels never felt the joys that [her]salvation [brought],”*
so is Norma’s song, sung perfectly (for the first time) resounding in Heaven. Those whom she has blessed, and gone on, are being blessed by her again. Those who wait, who know the Lord, do so with the blessing that they, too, will hear her song yet.
