Norene Going

November 1, 1945 — January 19, 2015

Norene Crockett Going, 69, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2015 at her home in South Salt Lake. Norene was born on November 1, 1945, in Safford, Arizona, the third child of Jamie and Osmer Crockett. She spent her childhood in Pima, Arizona, where her family had a dairy farm. After graduating from Pima High School in 1963, she moved to Utah to attend BYU. She graduated in Genealogical Studies. While there, she met her sweetheart, Leonard M. Going, who she married in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple on May 31, 1968. Together, they are the parents of five children: Laurel (Bruce) Herron, Trent (Christine) Going, Daniel (Jennifer) Going, Glade (Nancy) Going, and Annette (Eric) Oler. Early in their married life, the couple moved to the Washington D.C. area for two years. When they returned to Utah, they built their own home in Sandy, Utah. They raised their family in this home where they lived for over 26 years. In 2001, Norene and Leonard moved to Miamisburg, Ohio. As empty-nesters, Norene and Lenny lived, worked, and served in Ohio for 13 years.
In 2012, they were called to serve in the Omaha, Nebraska LDS Mission. They had the pleasure of serving in the Mormon Trail Visitors’ Center, Kanesville Tabernacle Visitors’ Center, and the Winter Quarters Temple. While serving, Norene was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. With the help of many blessings and steadfast faith, they were able to complete their mission while seeking treatment.
Norene loved to sew and quilt. She made many beautiful quilts and home décor items. Many cherish the items she made for them. She enjoyed travel and had several memorable trips including a trip to New Zealand in 2009 and a cruise to the Panama Canal in 2014 with some of Norene’s siblings and their spouses.
Norene’s greatest joy was spending time with her family; she adored each of her 20 grandchildren: Cody, Stephanie, Kellie, Taylor, Kailey, Brennen, Bryson, Madison, Matthew, Preston, Jamie, Trevor, Ashley, Tanner, Sampson, Tristan, Sadie, Logan, Lily, and Zac. In July, she traveled to Oregon to send off her oldest grandson, Cody, to the Trujillo, Peru LDS Mission. Lenny and Norene recently moved back to the Salt Lake Valley where they could spend more time with their family and friends there.
Norene is survived by her husband, their children and grandchildren, her 4 siblings: Kay (Jon) Schaumann, Dale (Karla) Crockett, Lawrence (Edelia) Crockett, and Rhonda (Aaron) Eastin, as well as Lenny’s siblings and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Jamie Permelia Hart Crockett and Osmer Owen Crockett.
