Nola Dixie Munson

January 29, 1932 — January 4, 2022

Nola Dixie Munson- “Smilin’ Dixie”, our beloved wife, mom, grandma, sister, aunt and friend peacefully returned to her Father in Heaven on January 4th, 2022, from natural causes in her home in Holladay, UT.
Dixie was born on January 29, 1932 in Cannonville, UT to Irving and Daisie Johnson. Although she moved to the city; her heart never left the red rocks of Southern Utah. She always spoke fondly of her adventures growing up with her 10 siblings. She was extremely athletic – affectionately described as a tomboy,  and also became a talented seamstress and learned the lost art of tatting. Over the years she made many beautiful quilts and other creations for those she loved.
She married her sweetheart Donald J Munson on June 3rd, 1950 in the St. George Temple. Together they lived in Hawthorne NV, Salt Lake City, and later in life as St. George snowbirds. They raised 4 beautiful children.  Dixie loved and cherished her role as a mother and grandmother. Together, she and Don were the definition of true love as they spent 71 beautiful years together and lived life to the fullest. They were always up for an adventure, and you could often find them traveling, dancing, bowling, golfing, playing cards, or on an outing with their “trackers and kickers” club in Southern Utah. Dixie was always proud to exclaim she had THREE holes in one, and would be sure to remind you that she had 1 more than her husband Don.
In her later years we knew her as Dix, the life of the party, who always had a joke or a funny memory to share. She loved to connect with people, and if you had more than a 5-minute conversation with her, she would try to figure out if you were related or a distant” cousin”. Despite the health challenges that she battled the last few years, she kept her determined and feisty spirit, while still making you feel loved and special.
Dixie is survived by her sweetheart Don, children Donell DeMarquessa (Jacque DeMarquess), Debra Hunt, Kurt (Lori) Munson, and Kris (Kenyon) Tanner, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Also survived by her sisters Karel Robinson and Collette Liddell. She is preceded in death by her parents and 8 siblings.
While life won’t be the same without our “Smilin’ Dixie”, we are grateful she is no longer in pain and is reunited with so many loved ones who passed on before. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the many caregivers who so lovingly took care of her the past few months, especially Jamie and Katie with Inspiration Home Health & Hospice as well as her nurse Christine at AMG.
