Nina Kelley Wachtel

December 17, 1959 — January 28, 2022

Our dear Nina (little girl and big sister) passed away on January 28th 2022 at her home in Draper. Mom and sister Carrie were by her side while father Ken and sister Robin were waiting with open arms to welcome her to heaven. Nina was born on December 17, 1959 in the town of Milford CT right on the coast of Long Island Sound to proud parents, Kenneth Hillman Kelley and Jane Bunnell Kelley.
As a young girl, Nina loved to walk down the street with her family and play in the sand, look for seashells, and go for a swim in the ocean.
The Kelley family moved many times due to Ken’s career. One of our favorite homes was in State College PA where Nina had many close friends that’s she’s still in touch with to this day, such as Tony Intorre, Jim Kaprockie, and her best friend, Nancy Nelson. She and Nancy started their first job together as 16 year olds at Things Remembered. Nina had such good memories of her job that she kept her Things Remembered name badge all these years.
After high school, Nina got her Associates Degree in Accounting and Legal Administration at South Hills Business College. She worked for years in the title business before working for Draper City. In all her jobs, Nina was Employee of the Month and Employee of the Year many times over. Sadly, two strokes in her 50s ended her career.
Nina married Dieter Wachtel when she was 21. They later divorced.
Nina got her love of gemology from her rockhound Uncle Jimmy. Gems were Nina’s lifelong passion and she was very knowledgeable in this field.
Nina loved all animals but especially her beautiful Weimaraner, Rainey whom she loved to cuddle with. She was a big advocate of animal rights and a strict vegan. She studied which companies used animals in testing and avoided using them. Nina was a kind, inquisitive, loyal friend, sister and daughter. She was our rock who kept us together. Nina loved to make us laugh with her Scottish accent and proper Queen’s accent while enjoying a cuppa tea. We love Nina very much and her passing leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We will be having a little get together to celebrate Nina in the near future.
Nina’s ashes will be spread with her beloved sister Robin’s who left us in 2005. Please give your pet a hug for Nina!
