Nick Ziakas, (86) died August 20, 2014 in Salt Lake City. He was born March 29, 1928 in Sunnyside, Utah, to Angelo and Mary Ziakas. Nick served in Germany during the Korean conflict. He married Olga Mentis on April 12, 1952. Nick was a loving husband and father.
He is survived by his wife Olga; sons: Angelo and Pete; daughter Kathy (Christos) Doulis; grandchildren: Anastasia (Brady) Pollock, Andriana (James) Comas, Katee (Casey) Gunnell; great granddaughters Anorah and Joslynn; sisters: Helen Velis and Venus (John) Fourkas; sisters-in- law: Julia and Mary Ziakas; cousins: Voula (George) Maroudas and Kathy Tsilis; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers: George and Pete; and brother-in-law Bob Velis.
Funeral services will be held August 23, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City, Utah. Viewing will be held at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, August 22, 2014, from 6:00-7:30 p.m., Trisagion at 7:00 p.m. Interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
