Nellie Ruth Boyd Grady

November 9, 1921 — May 13, 2021

After nearly a century of life, Nellie Ruth Boyd Grady returned to her heavenly home on May 13, 2021 from causes incident to age.
Nellie was born Nov. 9, 1921 in Holdenville, Oklahoma. She was one of five children born to Arthur J. Boyd and Cora Wentworth.
During WW2 Nellie moved to Washington D.C. to work as a secretary for the federal government. It was there she met Arthur C. Grady. They were married Feb. 17, 1946 in Oklahoma and returned to raise their 5 children (Lionel (Artis), Anne, Barbara, Maureen, and Roger (JoAnn)) in the Washington D.C area. Arthur died in September of 1980.
After retiring from the federal government in 1984, Nellie spent most of her remaining years in various parts of Utah.
Music wasn’t just a part of her life; it was a part of her. She was devoted to vocal performance as a talented soprano, participating in a wide variety of choirs and ensembles, including singing with the Southern Utah Heritage Choir well into her 90s. She was much sought after to sing at weddings and funerals and often used music to share the deepest feelings of her soul.
The only thing more important than music was her family. Her posterity includes 16 grandchildren and an ever-expanding number of great-grandchildren. While everyone has their favorite memories of Grandma, one thing seems universal, her fried chicken dinners were legendary in the family.
Regardless of her circumstances Nellie was always generous, optimistic and cheerful. Her positive attitude served as a light to many and she will be greatly missed.
A graveside service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at the Memorial Estates in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
