January 18, 1918 — July 23, 2016

Nellie Rebecca Leggroan Howell loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great, great grandmother passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 23, 2016.
Nellie was born on January 18, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lucy Cecelia Bankhead Leggroan and Benjamin Franklin Leggroan. She married Floyd Leonard Howell on October 26, 1938 and they resided together in Salt Lake City for their 65 years of marriage until Floyd passed away in 2003.
Nellie was a devoted Seventh-Day Adventist and became a member of the church in August of 1931. Throughout the years, she held various positions within the church and participated in missionary work and church activities. She was an active and dedicated member. She lived a wonderful Christian life and was instrumental in seeing her children and many of her grandchildren become members of the church.
Nellie was an avid gardener. She loved flowers and always maintained a beautiful garden that was admired by all. For many years on Saturday mornings, Nellie could be seen in her yard cutting flowers to take to the morning church service.
Her bouquets were beautiful and were a symbol of the beautiful life she lived.
Nellie knitted and crocheted beautiful afghans and doilies. She presented each one of her grandsons with a beautiful afghan.
She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters Sharon Ross (Paul) and Annette Jennings (Jeremiah). She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Rebecca Gonsalves (Francis), Pete A. Ross (Tannia), Gina Jerry (Marcus), Shawn Ross (Traci), Jelani Jennings (Miranda), Shomari Jennings, Nakia Ross, Denzel Jennings, and Eboni Shephard. Also twenty-seven great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins will cherish her memory.
She is survived by two loving sisters Florence Lawrence and Wanda Crawford and preceded in death by two loving brothers Jack Leggroan and Raymond Leggroan.
Nellie enjoyed 98 years of life for which we are thankful. All her family will always love, cherish, and never forget “Grandma Nellie.”
