Nathalie Olsen Garrison

August 2, 1938 — February 8, 2016

Our cherished wife, mother, and grandma passed away on February 8, 2016 following a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She passed away at home, with her husband of 53 years at her side.
Nathalie was born on August 2, 1938 in Bonner’s Ferry Idaho, and was the second of three children born to Glen Dale Olsen and Sarah LaRaida Richins. She spent most of her young years on the family farm in the small panhandle town of Port Hill, Idaho. She attended Bonner’s Ferry High School, and after graduation she took a job at Boundary County extension service. She then moved to Salt Lake City shortly afterwards where she met her husband, William Lee Garrison.
William and Nathalie were married on June 13, 1962 in the Salt Lake Temple. They have four children, LaRaida, Katrina, Jeffrey, and Nathan.
She was a valiant member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, Primary Chorister, Ward Chorister, and Girls Camp Director (where she was given the nickname of “Dr.NOG”). She served as the Advancement Chair on the Troop Boy Scout Committee, where she helped many young men advance to the Rank of Eagle Scout. She was awarded the “Excellence in Trail Building Service Award” for her dedicated service.  She was a member of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers.
She worked at Horizon Publishers and as a food service worker for Davis County School District.
She was most known for her love of music. She had a beautiful Soprano voice and loved to sing. She was a member of the Utah Symphony Chorus, the Sacra Delsa Chorus, several community choral groups, and sang in religious choral groups. She taught piano lessons to many pupils up until the Alzheimer’s made it impossible for her to continue.
She had a love of flowers, gardening, canning, food storage, crocheting, walking, and sewing. She sewed many costumes for Trek, and sewed clothing for her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Sarah Olsen. She is survived by her husband William Lee Garrison, daughter LaRaida (Stan) Pies, daughter Katrina Garrison, son Jeffrey (Leslie) Garrison, son Nathan (Trish) Garrison, brother LaMar (Dorothy) Olsen, sister Elda Rae (Mel) Yoshimura, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held in her honor at the LDS church located at 540 North 1200 East, Bountiful, Utah on Friday February 12, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Saturday February 13, 2016 from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. The funeral service will commence at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Estates in Bountiful, Utah.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Pat Hawks, Heartwood Home Care and Hospice, and the Avalon Care Center for their loving and compassionate service that was provided for our mother. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah at www.alz.org/utah/.
Until we meet again mom, enjoy singing with the angelic choir that you are now part of! We love you and will miss you!
