Nadine Von Niederhausern Carter

July 23, 1931 — October 2, 2018

Our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on October 2, 2018;
was greeted in the next life by her family and loved ones.  Mom was born in Phoenix, Arizona
on July 23, 1931 to Frederick and Viola Weiss von Niederhausern and was the youngest of
three children.  She graduated from Bryant Jr and East High Schools and went on to graduate with a degree in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University.
She loved missionary work and was able to serve in Switzerland, homeland of her father. She
served in the Swiss-Austrian Mission from 1954 to 1956. While serving in Switzerland, she
met her future husband, John ‘Dee’ Carter, Jr.  Nadine and Dee were married on June 11, 1957
in the Salt Lake Temple. She taught for a short time in the Granite School District at Woodstock Elementary. Nadine and Dee went on to have and raise 6 children: Denine (Ray) Driggs, Bonnie (Ed) Johnson, J. David (Veray) Carter, Dan F. (Karen) Carter, Mark N. (Shonte) Carter and Jeff D. (Audrey) Carter along with 30 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mom and Dad loved the Temple. They met at the cornerstone laying ceremony of the Swiss Temple while serving on their missions. Dad later proposed to Mom in the Salt Lake Temple where they were eventually sealed. Mom and Dad also served together on two separate LDS temple missions. For 18 months in the Freiberg Germany Temple (1995-96) and for 18 months in the Washington, DC Temple (1998-99).
Along with Mother’s love for traveling throughout the world, she found joy in music and art. She loved to sit and play pieces like Chopin’s “Polonaise” on the piano or sing “In the Leafy Tree Tops” and other primary songs to her children and grandchildren.  She also found accomplishment in oil painting scenes from her travels.
We appreciate the special care and treatment for Mom in her later years. Special thanks go out to the caring and kind staff of Atria-Cedarwood Sandy and Alta Ridge Memory Care Centers.
