Obituary for Myrtle Hunt Jenkins
Myrtle (Myrt) Hunt Jenkins, 93, of Midvale, Utah, died peacefully in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the early morning hours of 1 November 2015, with granddaughters by her side. She was born 23 May 1922 in Joseph, Utah, the second daughter of Jesse Simpson and Juliaett Chidester Hunt. Myrtle married Ernest Jacob Jenkins on 24 April 1939 in Provo, Utah. He passed away on 14 January 1975, leaving her a widow for 40 years.
Myrtle loved her family very much and enjoyed their visits whenever possible and her letters and visits by her many friends. Myrt looked forward to the weekends when daughter Donna would take her shopping and visiting with others. Going out to eat at her favorite restaurants was a wonderful treat.
Mom accidentally slipped from her bed early Monday morning, 26 October, and was transported to IHC in Murray for hospitalization. High risk surgery on the hip occurred the next day and the doctors were pleased with the results, indicating that her heart and lungs functioned better than expected. She was able to sit in a chair next to the bed the next day, getting in and out by herself. Early Thursday morning she fell into a deep sleep and could not communicate nor eat/drink anything. In the afternoon she was transferred to Care Source in Murray for care and comfort where many of her dear family and friends visited to wish her well, even though she slept. We believe she knew who visited and could hear them but couldn’t respond. Not wanting to be resuscitated nor be a burden or vegetable to anyone, she was ready to cross the veil to meet deceased family members. However, she did wait until all traveling family members arrived from Oregon and Colorado on Saturday, 31 October.
We thank all the medical staff at University of Utah Hospital facilities and Intermountain Health Care that have given care over the years and Care Source of Murray for the comfort and care they rendered in her final hours.
She is survived by her children: Richard (Sherry) Jenkins, Myrle Sherman, Linda (Wayne) Kay, Donna Vaughn, daughter-in-law Glenda Jenkins, brother-in-law Wendle Davis and 25 grandchildren: Alan Jenkins, Stephen (LuAnne) Jenkins, Brian (Laura) Jenkins, James (Heather) Jenkins, Andrew Jenkins, Jill Strasburg (Phil) Tinkham, Annette Strasburg (Daren) Sandstrom, and Janeen Strasburg (Shane) Reisner ; John (Melissa) Sherman, Cynde Heintz-Sherman, Richard Sherman, and Sheila Sherman Nation; Stephanie Jenkins, Rebecca Jenkins, Jason (Nichole) Jenkins, Andrea Jenkins Tilton and Amy Smith; Rex (Monica) Goudy, JoLynn Goudy, and LaDean Goudy; and Eric (Julie) Vaughn, Randy (Emily) Vaughn, Brandon Vaughn, Tristy Vaughn (Dan) Mirci and Tiffany Vaughn (Mike) Rathgeber; 48 great grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved and treasured dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ernest Jacob Jenkins, her parents, son Dale Jenkins, grandson Raymond Dale Jenkins, and brothers Alfred Allred, Jesse Hunt and James Hunt, sisters Ruth Hunt Barney, Alice Hunt Jenkins, and Edna Dean Davis.
