Myrna Morris Chadwick

August 29, 1937 — January 13, 2019

Myrna lived an incredible life. Born in 1937 to LarSene and Wayne Morris, she began her life of service as the oldest sister to two younger brothers, Craig and Mark. The little family made their home in old Salt Lake before building the home in West Valley City which would become iconic to so many in the area. As a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP), she was proud to be a descendant of a state of Deseret/Utah Territory pioneer.
Myrna met Don through a mutual friend, who set them up on a blind date. After that first night they spent every minute together, and were married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 4th, 1960. After the devastating news that they would not be able to have children, Don and Myrna adopted two daughters, Cyndi and Connie. But Myrna wasn’t finished yet! Through many prayers and miracles, Charise, Reed, and Mark were born into the family. Her greatest joy was spending time with all 5 of her children, and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed.
Myrna loved to dance. Starting in 1953 and continuing throughout her entire life, she taught in her home studios, first in the little house in Kearns, and later in the house in “Hunter”. In the beginning even the costumes worn by performers would be sewn by her. She loved sharing her love of dance and spending time in the studio. Even after her retirement you would often find “Miss Myrna” in the studio reviewing rhythm steps with the students. She loved tap dancing especially, and touched the lives of so many generations of students at Chadwick’s Dance Studio in West Valley City, UT.
Church service was an integral part of Myrna’s life. She loved spending time at church and in her missionary service, and enjoyed sharing her knowledge and testimony with those around her. She served in almost every calling, from youth leader to Stake Relief Society President, and found joy and fulfillment in each position. Later in her life, Myrna was a volunteer missionary at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in Salt Lake City, UT. She loved being able to spread the gospel, and always had a goal to give away one Book of Mormon each night. She loved teaching and sharing about the Church and her testimony of righteousness has influenced many.
Myrna lived a life of great joy and community service. Anytime you needed something, she was there with open arms and willingness to help. From sewing bathing suits for her family and others in need, to creating intricate and statuesque wedding cakes “on the side” for friends and family. She cherished spending time with her friends, going out to dinner and a show or sewing a baby blanket for a new birth in her neighborhood. Myrna was an avid bowler for over 50 years, and was
known to attend multiple bowling leagues per week, serving as league secretary for countless terms. Not many people can say they have bowled a “perfect game” but for Myrna that was just another day at the alley. She also served on the West Valley City community board in its first years, helping create what would become the West-Fest annual celebration.
Above all else, Myrna loved spending time with her family. Birthdays, dance recitals, graduations, you name it – she was there. Winter holidays meant creating hand-dipped chocolates and popcorn balls, and summertime meant endless hours waterskiing and later in the pool and on the trampoline. She was a pillar of strength and love to everyone around her, and she will be greatly missed.
Myrna is survived by her five children: Cyndi, Connie, Charise, Reed, and Mark, their spouses, 16 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
