Mother Elizabeth Jackson

May 15, 1931 — May 31, 2020

Born May 15,1931 to Charles and Clara Alice Tillman in St. Louis, Mo. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age.  She was preceded in death by husband Magellan Tate, brother Charles Tillman, sisters Mildred Locke, and Leoma Jenkins.  She was united in Holy Matrimony to Earl E. (Daddy Jack) Jackson, whose love for her was so strong that he raised and adopted six of the most ghetto, as well as the most respectful, children imaginable.  Mommy, the last of the Big Mommas, who once wrote on a report card “Spare the rod and Spoil the child leaves to celebrate her transition five sons, Major Wendell, Clarence Allen, Kenneth Jerome, Dr. Levencia Demetrius (Jackie), and Charles Tate (Amber), and one daughter Clara Alice Whiteside, fifteen grandchildren,  fifty-two great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  This does not include the plethora of Church family members of numerous churches that considered her Momma, and a special friend Jackie Horton. Betty, as she was affectionately known as, was a talented singer throughout her life. Fondly being remembered for her renditions of Precious Lord, Don’t Give Up the Journey, Step By Step, and He’s Sweet I Know.  She was a member of the Friendship M.B. Church, the Olivet M.B. Church, and after her son was called to the Pastorate, Bridgeton Church and the True Fellowship M.B. Church where she was a charter member. While at the True Fellowship Church, she served alongside her son in ministry with great support and commitment. In 1999, Betty was privileged to accompany her son to the Holy Land and the Mother Land. She went there walking on a cane, but miraculously returned home walking without it. Hold to her testimony that God healed her while visiting the empty tomb.  She worked in various capacities of employment to provide for her family showing them that a strong work ethic will keep food on the table, clothes on your back, and a roof over your head.  After God moved her son to Rockford, IL, Betty was blessed to retire and move to Salt Lake City, UT where her youngest son, Charles, showed his appreciation by providing her with a loving home as well as seeing to all her needs and desires.  She united with the Calvary M.B. Church under the leadership of Dr. France Davis. She loved her church and her pastor and was adamant about telling him, “You preached today!” Pastor Davis honored her by appointing her as a Deaconess. Betty loved God and the men of God. Her home was the place of repose every Sunday night with a meal for every preacher that entered her home. That love followed her to Utah!  On a personal, Elizabeth Tate Jackson loved God. When referring to her conversion, it would always begin with “Honey let me tell you.” She made sure that her children knew God, insisted that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have a relationship with Him.

Due to the landscape of COVID-19, the evening viewing is limited to minimal amount of people.
