Mitchell Roy Kamens

July 28, 1952 — October 13, 2017

Mitchell Roy Kamens, died in Salt Lake City, Utah, on October 13, 2017.  He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 28, 1952 to the late Samuel and Ruth Kamens.  He graduated from Overbrook High School (Philadelphia) then Temple University with a degree in Psychology.
Mitchell was a rabid fan of the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles, no matter where in America he lived. His
love for Atlantic City, New Jersey was a lifelong passion.  From playing on a Little League team coached by his father to bowling on different leagues in Salt Lake City, Mitchell loved to watch and participate in sports.  A very good bowler, Mitchell was often picked to be the anchor on a team because of his composure under pressure and skill.
Whether on the East Coast or in Long Beach, California, Mitchell loved to walk on the beach but couldn’t stand the feel of sand between his toes!  Although he found fishing relaxing, he usually didn’t eat what he caught.
His career in the airline industry began at TWA in Philadelphia.  From there, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri to work for PARS, a reservation software company, then to Northwest Airlines in Los Angeles, California.  After his stint with the airlines, he purchased and ran a local auto glass replacement business in Fullerton, California before moving to Utah to work in the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s office.  Mitchell also had a real estate license and was employed by the State of Utah at the time of his death. Mitchell’s career as a realtor spanned many years, both in California and Utah.  He was not only a salesperson, but enjoyed rehabbing houses and was instrumental in the completion of over 15 successful “flips” in the Salt Lake City area.
Mitchell was always fascinated to learn about the latest advancements in the tech and computer world.  Insatiable curiosity about anything computer related, he trained himself on the intricacies of Photoshop and programming.  Through his work, he installed systems and instructed hundreds of people on programs.  He even coached an elderly friend on the use of email in exchange for sailing lessons.
One of Mitchell’s true passions was his love for music.  He was a genuine Beatles fan and owned most of their albums.  One of the highlights of his life was seeing the Beatles Love show in Las Vegas.  His taste in music covered many genres from Willie Nelson to Alessia Cara.
He is survived by his sister, Beverly (David) Arsht of Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, and step-son, Nicholas Kislo of Long Beach, California and his niece and nephew, Ricki and Jordan Arsht. Married to Chris Kikuchi from 1988 to 2017.
A remembrance celebration will be held at the Episcopal Church Center of Utah, 75 South 200 East, Salt Lake City, UT on Monday, October 23, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm.  At Mitchell’s request, his remains will be cremated and returned to his beloved Philadelphia.
