Miriam Ann Howarth Simkins, age 82, passed away on April 12, 2017, in West Jordan, Utah, with loved ones at her side due to circumstances incident to age. She was born on August 29, 1934, to Thomas and Esther Howarth in Heber City, Utah, the third of five children. She always spoke fondly of her early years in Heber, milking cows and working in the hay fields with her dad, whom she idolized. She was an active member of the LDS Church all her life and served a mission in Germany from 1957 to 1959. In 1961, she married Howard Simkins of Lincoln County, Nevada. They were later sealed in the St. George Utah Temple. After their marriage, Howard and Miriam lived in Las Vegas, Nevada, where they raised two boys and were “Mom and Pops” to many young missionaries.
Miriam worked for various banks for 28 years until she retired. She lovingly and tirelessly cared for her husband until he passed away in 2004. No sacrifice was ever too much for her family. She loved to cook and sew. She made beautiful quilts for many friends and family members. In 2004, she moved to Utah with her youngest son and his family, where she resided until she passed away.
She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ramona; brother, Jay; and husband, Howard.
She is survived by sisters, Geneva Anderson of Heber, and Faye Rowley (Stan) of Roosevelt; sons, Jeffrey (Mary) of Las Vegas, and Howard (Gloria) of West Jordan; and grandchildren, Kyle, David, Jeffrey, and Cynthia.
Memorial service will be at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah, on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing at 10:00 a.m. There will also be a memorial service at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City, Nevada, on April 20, 2017, at 9:20 a.m. and interment will follow.
