Miriam “Mim” Meyerhoffer Jones was born on June 24, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Leander and Lillian Jones. She died on June 8, 2017 in Holladay, UT. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many.
Miriam grew up in Copperton, Utah with her brother, Calvin Jones. She was involved with the girl scouts as a child and took piano and dance lessons. She was a class officer at St Mary’s High School and graduated in 1943 from St. Mary’s High School with a science award. She went on to The University of Utah and graduated in 1948 with her BA degree in Chemistry.
Miriam was a smart, independent woman who lived a full and adventurous life. Her first job was in 1945 at the Bingham Copper Mine working as a switch operator. She worked many years as a chemist for the Bureau of Mines.
In 1955, at the age of 30 years old, Miriam received a call to serve a full-time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in East Germany. Within a month, her mission call was changed to serve in West Germany. She served in many additional callings over the years as a faithful member of the church, including a Genealogy mission from 1966-1968.
Miriam was a world traveler and would often unexpectedly call her family members from other countries to let them know where she was. She loved to hike, ski, and even earned her Pilot’s license.
Miriam was deeply loved by her many nieces and nephews, and they often referred to her as their bonus grandma. She was humble, generous, and always had a good attitude and a cheery disposition. She was a peaceful, gentle soul, who was an example to all of those who knew her. She loved gathering with her many Meyerhoffer and Jones cousins, and was always up for an adventure with friends and family.
Miriam was a long time resident of Holladay, Utah and was the type of person who made an impact on the lives of others in a quiet, unassuming way. She will be greatly missed, but we know she will be happy, reunited with the many friends and family who will greet her. Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Calvin, and her niece Claudia Ethington. Miriam is survived by her niece, Lisa Wood, her nephew, Barry Jones, and many great nieces and nephews.
