Our beautiful mother passed away peacefully on August 23, 2024 at the age of 94. Mildred (“Mil” and “Milly”) was born June 4, 1930 in Kanawha, Iowa to Andrew and Jennie (Pederson) Olson. Her parents were from Norway, so Mil grew up on a farm speaking Norwegian with her brothers and sisters until she started school.
On July 24, 1954 Mil married Ken Lofgreen, and they lived in Chicago for six years making many lifelong friends while raising their young family. Mil worked as a nurse in Chicago, and Ken was a bricklayer. In 1960, with three kids, they moved and settled in Salt Lake City where their fourth child was born. Mildred continued working as a nurse at LDS Hospital and Ken owned his own masonry business. In the late 70s, they opened Lofgren’s, a furniture store, which became a second home for many family members.
Even in her 90s, Mil continued to show love and appreciation for those who took care of her. She would frequently say, “I have lived a good life!” Mil and Ken enjoyed traveling, especially visiting family and friends in Sweden and Norway. She hosted many dinner parties and family gatherings. She never turned down an opportunity to host family and friends who came to visit. She simply enjoyed each moment given to her in this life.
As Grandma/Mormor, she loved her grandkids and enjoyed special moments with them. She took great care to celebrate and spend one-on-one time with her posterity. They will always remember how special they felt in those moments with her. This is the end of an era for us. She will be missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. Mil is survived by her children, David (Marla) Lofgreen, Diane (Dean) Bentley, and Dana (Doug) Ball; 16 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and lots of nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Lofgreen; her daughter, Donna West; her parents and siblings; her son-in-law, David West; her grandson, Jorma Bentley; and her two great grandchildren, Finn Lofgren and Shaylee West.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Legacy Memory Care and Dignity Hospice Care for taking care of Mil during this last year. Also, thanks to Highland Cove where Mil enjoyed living for several years prior to moving into Legacy.
