Mike was born in Trinchera, Colorado, September 13, 1921 to Juan and Elizabeth Martinez. He passed away at home May 27, 2014. He was the youngest child of 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Mike was always helping people and his neighbors, but there were those who took him because of his good nature.
He worked for Kennecott for several years, Big D Construction Co. and the US Postal Service. He served his country in the US Navy during WWII and was injured by scrap metal to his knees.
Mike had 8 children with his first wife, Jacqueline Dorothy Fuentes; later divorced. He married his lovely wife, Carrie Quintana. He loved fishing , hunting, eating good chili and fat tortillas. He loved his four legged girls, Coco, Fina and Cutie and they gave him great joy.
Survived by his children and step-children, Gloria P. Martinez, Maxine M. Martinez, Robert A. Martinez, JoAnn C. Martinez, Mark A. Martinez, Michael Martinez Jr., Christine Taberis, Robert Quintana, Eugene Quintana, and Elizabeth McCrary; many grand, great, and great-great grandchildren, and many extended family.
Preceded in death by his loving wife, Carrie, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, and his parents.
Vigil, followed by Rosary will be held Friday, May 30th, 6 – 8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. Mass of Funeral Rites will be held Saturday, 2:00 p.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 624 Lennox St. Interment, Redwood Memorial Cemetery.
