Michael Jack Wheaton
1949 – 2014
A wonderful man passed away on Sunday, January 19 from lung cancer. Jack was the first of four children born to Oscar and Beth Smith Wheaton in Coalville, Utah on October 5, 1949. He had a wonderful childhood growing up in Coalville and shared many stories about his adventures with his kids. He met his wife Monika while attending school in Salt Lake City where they settled down and raised their family. He drove truck locally for Saia Motor Freight where he made many friends of his fellow drivers and regular customers, particularly in Utah County. He was a kind man, hardworking, with a bit of a perfectionist streak who took pride in in everything he did. He loved reading and learning about history, enjoyed model railroading and watching drag races. Jack was diagnosed with cancer one month ago. He spent the past month enjoying time with his friends and family making memories that we will cherish. Survived by his wife Monika, daughter Nicole (Eric) Meagan, son Erick (Mindy) Wheaton, granddaughter Saige, of whom he was so proud, brother Brent (Jamie) Wheaton, sisters Dee Ann (Robyn) Wilde, Cheryl (Stan) Page and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law Eva Haut. A viewing will be held at Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, on Saturday, January 25 at 1:00 with a celebration of his life from 2:00-3:00. Bring your favorite memory to share. His family would like to thank the caring staff at LDS Hospital and Utah Cancer Specialists. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Jacks name to the American Cancer Society.
