Michael Dennis Struiksma, fondly known as Mike, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved on September 1, 2024, in West Jordan, Utah. Born on April 20, 1954, in San Diego, California, Mike lived a life marked by passion, dedication, and a commitment to education.

Mike was an excellent teacher and professor, whose influence extended beyond the classroom as an educational administrator. His professional journey was characterized by a steadfast dedication to the growth and success of his students, and he was highly regarded by those who had the privilege to learn from him. In addition to his teaching career, Mike served as a delegate and committee chair for the Utah Democratic Party, where he actively advocated for the rights and well-being of his community, including being a strong ally of the LGBTQ+ community and supporting initiatives such as Dragon Dads.

An accomplished academic, Mike earned three post-graduate degrees throughout his lifetime, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and intellectual advancement. His pursuits were not limited to academics; he cherished the simple joys of life, particularly enjoying playing board games with his family, where laughter and bonding were central to each gathering.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Grace Ann Tout Struiksma, and their five children: Michael (Renea), Joshua (Jessica), Derek (Cami), Linze, and N. Elizabeth. His legacy continues through his six grandchildren: Paul, Loran, Jace, Zoey, Abbey, and Riley. Additionally, he is remembered by his brother, Daniel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Lucile, and his sister, Pat Perryman.

There will be no formal service, just life celebrations by his family. Mike will be interred at a later date in Lancaster Country, Pennsylvania following his cremation.
