Michael Simkins

March 28, 1942 — June 30, 2018

Kaysville, Utah- Michael Simkins, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother and Friend passed away after a short illness surrounded by his family on June 30, 2018.  He was born in Cedar City, Utah on March 28, 1942 to Vergene and Grace Simkins.  He married Shanna Rae Hunt August 24, 1965 in the Manti LDS temple. They have five children.  Mike served an LDS mission in the East Central States and recently completed a three-year mission with his sweetheart as Guest Service Missionaries on Temple Square.  He has a missionary heart and eagerly dedicated his life to serving and teaching for our Heavenly Father and Savior.
He enjoyed many occupations including operating engineer, foreman of multiple construction trades, and restaurant owner.  He finished his work life as a school bus driver for Granite School District where he was drawn to help those in need and delighted in the little children.  He was a man of many talents and hobbies including; woodworking, gardening, storytelling, dancing and spending time with his family.  Mike was a project-oriented man.  He would study and learn all he could in whatever field he was interested in.  He would dabble in every trade he could, collecting many tools and equipment as he accomplish his projects.
Mike loved to dance the waltz, jitterbug and even had fun doing the “chicken dance.” He loved to get up and move until his age made the dance moves a little slower.  He danced with his wife since the day they met and taught his children and grandchildren all his dance moves.  He waltzed into Shanna’s life and raised a beautiful family.  There was always joy and interest in what their children were doing in their lives. He had a joyful sense of humor and a ready laugh and his personality always lite up a room. He enjoyed being happy and strived to teach all his family that same joy of life.  He was an adventurer who was filled with an energy that could not be contained.  He lifted everyone up that he met.  Mike was a well of wisdom and didn’t miss a chance to share it.  The gospel meant a great deal to him.  He expressed every chance he got to those he loved and to those he just met.  Everyone who knew him was assured they could turn to him for advice and he would give it with no hesitation.
Mike was a caring and devoted husband and had a good heart and desire to take care of his sweet wife.  He would do all sorts of things to put a smile on her face and try to make things comfortable and easy for her to join him in all his adventures.  Shanna was the center of his life and the sparkle in his world.  He often would call her his angel.  We are honored to have him as our angel too. Mike is survived by his wife, Shanna; Children,  Scott (Deani) Simkins, Sherry (Scott) Wilde, Cindi (Ryan) Schut, Launa (Jason) Turnbow, Jennifer (Brady) Rowley, 21 Grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; siblings, Shirley (Jerry-deceased) Miller, Janice (Dick) Milne,  Jeannie (Wally) Boggess, Gary (Diana) Simkins and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents Vergene and Grace Simkins and grandson Daxton Wilde.
