Michael Eric Peterson

November 23, 1940 — September 27, 2018

Michael Eric Peterson, 77, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Mike was born to Clarence and Norma Peterson in Elko, Nevada on November 23, 1940. He was a man of great service and performed his duties willingly as a serviceman in both the Army and Air Force. He served two tours in the Vietnam conflict and retired after a 22-year military career. He was fiercely proud of his military service.
Mike also retired from Abbott Laboratories in Salt Lake City, Utah, after 23 years.
As a stalwart member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Mike served as a missionary in Australia, as a Bishop in Sumter, South Carolina, and as a member of the High Council in the Kaiserslautern, Germany Stake.
Mike was blessed with a large and loving family. He married, Diane Georgell, on June 3, 1966 and together they raised six children and lived in Hawaii, North Dakota, Colorado, California, Germany, South Carolina, and Utah.
Mike is survived by his wife, Diane; his sons Lance (DeEtte), Kip (Amanda White), and Tim (Jessi Wacker); his daughters Annette (Ryan Barker), Holly (Jean Offret), and Kathleen (Ryan Higgins); his 24 grandchildren; and his sister, Pat (Stan DeWaal). He is preceded in death by his brother, Lauren (Maxine); and his parents.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 2nd, at the Utah Veterans Cemetery & Memorial Park located at 17111 South Camp Williams Rd. in Bluffdale, Utah. Viewing at 10:00AM, service at 11:00AM, and graveside interment at 12:00PM.
Mike leaves behind a legacy of duty, honor, laughter, love, respect, and absolute faith – he will be missed.
