Merwyn DeWayne Riddle, 96, passed away at home October 3, 2016 of causes incident of old age. He was born January 29, 1920 in Alliance, Nebraska to Edgar E. and Gladys Husted Riddle and lived there until leaving for California in 1938 to attend college. In Eureka, California he met Francis Larsen, but WWII soon intervened.
Merv enlisted in the Army Air Corp shortly before Pearl Harbor was attacked. Flying was his dream, and 4 ½ years of service during the war gave him many opportunities. His assignment for several years was the China Burma India Theater flying 144 missions over the Himalayas delivering supplies from India into China.
He and Frances were married in San Francisco, California on November 3, 1944. Merv sought out and joined the LDS Church in 1950 with Frances joining in 1953. Their marriage was solemnized in the LDS Mesa Temple on February 14, 1956.
From the day Merv joined the LDS Church, he never wavered in his commitment and dedication. He was a fully active member until his death and set wonderful examples of integrity and faithful service to his family.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Janice, and his wife, Frances. He is survived by his son Larry (Alice) Riddle, five grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 10, 2016 at the Rowland Way Chapel, 610 North 100 East, Centerville, Utah at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the Rowland Way Chapel, Sunday, October 9 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., or one hour before the service Monday.
