Merry Atagi Nakagawa

February 3, 1924 — December 17, 2021

Merry Atagi Nakagawa passed away peacefully on December 17, 2021 at Carrington Court in South Jordan, Utah. She was born in Stockton, CA on February 3, 1924 to Takeo Atagi and Tomi Takokoro. The family was relocated to Amache Interment Camp during World War II. The family then settled in Utah. Merry met Torao “Lou” Nakagawa in a bowling league and were married on December 5, 1959 in Salt Lake City. Lou was a farmer in West Jordan and Merry worked with Lou on the farm. She enjoyed going to Wendover and Las Vegas. She looked forward to the annual Salt Lake Buddhist Temple BWA bus trip to the Las Vegas Obon. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. During her later years, she had fun watching the Utah Jazz on tv with family, especially enjoying the play of Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell. We will miss her quiet and sassy ways.
She is survived by her daughters, Gail (Mark) Minaga and Nancy (Brian) Kobata, grandchildren Anne and Kevin Kobata, Matthew Minaga, sisters – Virginia Fujishin (San Jose, CA), Betty (Art) Fujinaka (Kaneohe, HI). Preceded in death by her parents, husband Lou, sisters June Seo, Dolly Miya and brother Richard Atagi.
The family would like to express thanks to everyone at Carrington Court for their kind and compassionate care of Mom.
Mom will be cremated and a private family service will be held in the future. Due to the ongoing concerns of the pandemic, a celebration of life will be planned at a later date.
