Ivins, Utah – Melvin Thomas Day, 95, passed away March 28, 2022, two days before his 96th birthday, at his home in Ivins. He was born the 6th of seven children to Heber Marion Day and Annie Lovisa Jolley, in Benjamin, Utah. He married his sweetheart Edna “Anne” Brown in the Salt Lake Temple June 16, 1947. They made their home in Murray, Clearfield, Bountiful, and Ivins Utah. Raising a fun family of five children.
Melvin was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions most recently as an Elder’s Quorum Counselor. Melvin and Anne served a mission for their church at the Salt Lake City Family History Center from June 1999 to November 2000. Meeting and loving so many wonderful friends there. He served in the Navy in Communications as a Telegrapher among other duties while stationed in Hawaii from November 1943 to April 1947. He worked at Hill Air Force Base until he retired in 1981 as a Section Chief, receiving many Honors and Awards. He loved playing cards, croquet, tennis, softball, bowling, and golf with his family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor, a sparkle in his eyes, a bright smile for everyone he met, a pointing finger and a double mouth click for emphasis!
Melvin is survived by his children: Melvin Thomas “Tom” II [TerriJo], Paul Heber [Deana], JoAnne [Kirk] Davis, James Alan, and Doralee [Arnold] Copp; 25 grandchildren; 95 great grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne; his parents; 6 siblings; and a daughter-in-law, Louise Durfey Day.
Funeral services will be held in Ivins, Utah on Friday, April 15, 2022, at 4:00 pm at the Ivins 4th Ward Chapel, 260 East 1060 South. A viewing will be held Friday, prior to services, from 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm at the church.
Graveside services will be held In Taylorsville, Utah on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at 2:00 p.m., with a viewing prior from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m., at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road.
