Melvin O. Smith

August 3, 1933 — December 19, 2020

Melvin O. Smith, age 87, was greeted with open arms, by loved ones as he passed through the veil December 19, 2020. He was born on August 3, 1933 to Melvin O and Victoria Scott Smith. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandpa. Melvin took great pride in his work as an ironworker and his handiwork can be appreciated in states all across the West. Melvin served his country for four years in the United States Air Force.
Melvin loved life to the fullest, especially when it involved family. He loved working with his hands, woodworking, drawing and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed God’s creations, the beautiful outdoors, camping, exploring, and fishing. He loved to serve those around him, neighbors, family and ward members, helping wherever he saw there was a need.
He spent many years, working at the Humanitarian Center on a service mission. Where he made many friends and took pride in helping those all around the world.
Mosiah 2:17 “And behold, I tell you these things that ye many learn wisdom; that ye may larn that when ya are in the service of your fellow beings ya are only in the service of your God.”
Preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, Eddie. He is survived by his wife, Carol Smith, sons and daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Congratulations, you have graduated with HONORS! We love you and will miss you. You will always be in our hearts…
The family extends a special thanks to Mel’s care team:
Angie – a devoted nurse from Utah Home Health and Hospice.
Hailey – a dedicated case worker at Envision Quality Supports.
All the team members at Heritage Place for their kind words and loving care while living at his home away from home.
Thank you for making this journey lighter…
