Shortly after their marriage Ken and Dawn made the courageous decision to leave South Africa and forge a new life in Canada.

A distinguished scholar, he earned his Bachelor's degree in from Brigham Young University, followed by Master's and Doctoral degrees from Penn State University. His academic pursuits provided him an opportunity to teach at Montana State University before returning to Utah, where he and Dawn established roots and nurtured a growing family.
Ken's legacy extended beyond the walls of academia, resonating deeply within the communities he touched. He was a devoted husband and father of two sons, and he cherished the role of grandfather to his three grandchildren, guiding each with wisdom earned from a life richly lived. His dedication to service found expression in a myriad of forms, from leadership as a Scoutmaster to his steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship with the Salt Lake County Health Department. For over two decades, he labored to safeguard the natural splendor of Utah's landscapes, ensuring pristine drinking water and clean air for future generations.
Ken's passions were as diverse as they were profound. An avid explorer of nature's wonders, he reveled in the majesty of Arches, Zion, and Capitol Reef National Parks, where each canyon and peak bore witness to his enduring spirit of adventure. His love for sports and gardening mirrored his zest for life, while his abiding affection for family illuminated every facet of his being.
In bidding farewell to Ken, we honor not only the life he lived but the indelible mark he left upon our hearts. His was a life animated by courage, enriched by love, and defined by an unwavering commitment to justice and community.
