Melvin Mascherino
January 29, 1957 — May 17, 2015
Mel was born Jan. 29, 1957 to Lorna Mantle and Leslie Mascherino in Murray, UT. He passed away May 17, 2015 in Baltimore, MD.
The youngest of 8 children, he attended Madison Elementary, Central Jr. High and graduated from Granite High.
Mel served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Italy Padova Mission from 1976-1978. He graduated from Brigham Young University where he studied Italian extensively, and the Catholic University of America where he received his Master of Arts degree in 1992.
Mel worked for the U.S. Government for 29 years which enabled him to travel to his much loved Italy and other parts of Europe many times.
He has many friends here and from his travels. Mel is uncle to not only family but to children of many friends.
He is survived by his brother Mike (Connie) Mascherino and, sisters Betty (Marv) May, Lois (Bruce) Callahan and sister-in-law Louann (Don) Mascherino Stevenson, 19 nieces and nephews and 55 great nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, sister Carol and brother Don.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD for their care, love and concern for Mel. Because of his love for his dogs, Mel asks in lieu of flowers please make a donation to your local animal shelter or charity of your choice.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 from 6-8 pm at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 S. 900 E., Murray, and again 1 hour prior to services on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 11:00 am at Kimball Ward, 2280 S. 300 E., South Salt Lake, Utah. Interment will follow the service at Lake Hills Memorial Cemetery, 10055 S. State St., Sandy, UT.
