A last call was sent from K7KC on September 24th 2017 when Melvin Lynn Johnson “Lynn”, devoted husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. He was 80 years old.
Lynn, with his wife of 53 years Kay Smith Johnson raised 6 children in Dublin California and Sandy Utah. Lynn was an active member of the LDS church and held many key positions over the years. He served a faithful mission in Germany and Austria and loved his time in that region as well as the people and the German language which he still spoke fluently upon his death.
Lynn had a great passion for his favorite hobby, HAM Radios. As operator “K7KC” and an expert in the design, build, use and repair of Ham radios. He frequently was speaking to someone on the radio from various parts of the world and shared his knowledge of them with his radio club and friends and fellow ‘Hammers’ from all corners of the globe. He literally was active with Ham radios until the day he passed.
Lynn’s other passion, especially earlier in his life was being a private pilot. He flew family-owned, private planes when his children were young. This passion started very early as he was a pilot at 14 years old, so he was able to fly before he could drive a car!
Lynn worked for the LDS church at Salt Lake headquarters for 19 years, working as a computer analyst and programmer, developing various programs including the one used worldwide to manage tithing donations.
He also spent time in the service of our country in the Air Force. He devoted 27 years in the service and retired with honors as a Master Sergeant in 1996.
Lynn is preceded in his death by his son Karl D. Johnson and survived by his wife Kay Smith Johnson, sons Erik W. (and Beth) Johnson, Kurt P.(and Joanna) Johnson, Chris A. (and Melissa) Johnson, Peter S. (and Gina) Johnson and daughter Turi (and Mike) Perry as well as 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
