Melvin Hill

January 12, 1932 — March 21, 2015

Melvin Eugene Hill Jr., aka “Bud”, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2015 in Salt Lake City, UT. He was born January 12, 1932 to Melvin Eugene Hill Sr. and Brigetta Linea Erickson. Mel attended South High School and later the University of Utah. He graduated with a degree in Accounting and went on to have a successful career as a CPA. He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. On April 21, 1961, he married his sweetheart, Anne Marie Gregson after meeting her at the drinking fountain at work. That marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mel loved his family, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and duct tape.
He enjoyed building birdhouses, repairing cars, attending sporting events and teaching anyone how to waterski. Mel was an avid sports fan and loved the local sports teams, and especially his Utes. He loved to spend weekends and holidays up at the cabin with his family, and found happiness and peace on the shores of Bear Lake.
He served in the LDS church with scouts, young men, as financial clerk and held several stake callings. His favorite was the years he spent as a Bishop of the Holladay 11th ward. He had a strong testimony of the gospel and lived it in his everyday life.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Anne; children, Sandra Dorius, Cindy, Debbie, Jana, and Wayne; grandchildren, Kirsten, C.J., Geoff, Austin and Sam Dorius; and a huge extended family. He is preceded in death by many beloved family members, including his parents, Donna Monson (sister), Roy Ohrn (brother), Todd Dorius (son-in-law), and granddaughter Elizabeth.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday March 25th at the Holladay 1st Ward, (4675 S 2065 E) at 11am. Friends and family are invited to visit Tuesday evening from 6 to 8pm, or Wednesday morning 9:30-10:30 at the church. Funeral Services handled by Deseret Memorial Mortuary. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.deseretmortuary.com.
The family would like to thank the staff at St Mark’s hospital for their care and extraordinary compassion during dad’s final days.
