Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Melva, passed away January 9, 2014 at the age of 83. A seven year stroke victim, Mom succumbed to pneumonia.
Melva was born July 17, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Kenneth and Barbara King Lemmon. She married Launt Gene Jacobsen, October 5, 1950. She was brilliant with the pen, accomplished writer, poet and playwright. She received many awards for her writings. Participated in writing the original young women’s camping manual, a pioneer in the girls camping program. Served many years in stake primary presidency and taught deaf primary. She was a Red Cross First Aid instructor for many years. Her sense of humor never left her…or her voice to remind us she was the mom!
She is survived by her children, Marlene (Mike) Schnabel, Lonnie (Darcy) Jacobsen, Barbara Jacobsen, Nyle (Maela) Jacobsen, Missy Long, Jana Jacobsen; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her loving husband; parents, and a brother.
Funeral services will be held Monday, January 13th, 11:00 a.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 So. Redwood Rd. A viewing will be held Sunday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at the mortuary and one hour prior to services on Monday.
