Max Tovey Hardy

Our loving father Max Tovey Hardy, age 86, returned home to his Heavenly Father on February 19, 2020 in South Jordan, Utah. Max was the youngest of five children born to George and Annette Hardy on September 27,1933 in Bountiful, Utah.
Among the beautiful apple orchards surrounding his home, he first learned to work. While young, Dad had the opportunity to work at the Salt Lake Hardware along with his father. Grandpa instilled in him a lifetime of an outstanding work ethic.
My Dad loved school! He attended the Ogden School for the Deaf in Utah. He was thrilled to be able to communicate with other deaf students. Dad was involved in school activities, played on the school basketball team and attended proms. Swimming and water skiing with classmates were happy times. Dad treasured these lifetime friendships and keeps them close to his heart.
Upon graduating, he acquired pressman skills. Immediately he began his long career at Deseret Press until his retirement after 25 years of dedicated and outstanding service.
Dad has always been a valiant servant of the Lord and had a deep abiding testimony of the Gospel. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully in all his many callings.
Looking at my Dad, you would never know that he enjoyed eating a large bowl of ice cream or sipping on a Root beer float every night! He was always the last one eating at the table. He enjoyed reading the Deseret News and Popular Science, watching movies that would make him laugh, spending time talking, and playing games with family.
Dad enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was camping, boating, fishing or hiking. He always had a camper or trailer ready to hit the road. His infectious fascination for the outdoors has been carried on to his children and grandchildren. We all look forward to the “Annual Hardy Campout”.
At Christmastime, a family tradition we enjoy together is performing a special or meaningful song in American Sign Language for each other. Tears and hugs are always shared.
Every year Dad would perform “Silent Night”.
To describe my Dad, I would say he was a quiet, patient and kind gentleman holding the highest integrity in his personal and professional life. He was an example of unconditional love. He never hesitated to say I love you and received so many kisses in return, especially at the Sheridan Senior living facility. He would try to make us laugh or smile and was always willing to share a loving embrace. He would yell out, “Hey…this is my daughter”, or “This is my son.” Dad was passionate and proud of all his children and grandchildren.
We will miss his smiling face and beautiful bright blue eyes that light up our hearts.
We will celebrate his life as we find comfort knowing he is in heaven watching over us. You now are free to walk, jump and run without physical pain. You can hear and listen to beautiful sounds of nature. You are finally free!

Family and friends may pay their respects on February 24, 2020. A viewing will be from 10:00 am-12:00 pm at the Salt Lake Valley 2nd Ward, 6250 South 2200 West, Taylorsville, Utah. The funeral service will then follow at 12:00 pm. Interment to follow funeral services at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6550 South Redwood Road, West Jordan Utah.
