Max was born on April 4, 1927, in Ivins, Utah, to Rulon Stucki and Vera Grace Staheli. He enjoyed working on the farm. He dropped out of school around junior high to work, helping load the produce trucks that his dad drove.
On November 8, 1945, when Max was 18 years old, he was drafted into the military and served in Okinawa, Japan.
When he was 21, he started driving trucks, hauling cattle, and picking up produce all over California. One time, a 100 lb. bag of potatoes fell off a pallet and landed on his neck and shoulders and almost killed him.
When Max was 30, he served on a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission, which included Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and South Carolina. He paid for his own mission with the money he had saved. On his mission, he started memorizing scriptures. He memorized 110 scriptures, word for word.
Max moved to Salt Lake City and worked delivering groceries for Associated Grocers. Next, he started driving trucks for Milne Truck Lines, driving from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Winnemucca, Nevada.
Max loved to dance! On the dance floor, at age 33, he met the beautiful Theressa Martine, who had three teenage daughters from a previous marriage. Two years later, on September 30, 1962, Max and Theressa were married in Elko, Nevada. Theressa was thrilled when a baby boy, John, was born on May 14, 1963.
Years later, like his dad, John served an LDS mission. He served in Santa Rosa, California.
When Max was 62, he decided to retire after working 16 years for Milne Truck Line. He figured he probably drove around 3 million miles during his trucking career. Developers bought Theressa’s home (which was where Home Depot at 1538 W 9000 S, West Jordan, sits now? There is a Home Depot in Sandy and one in Riverton; just put the address of the correct one), and Max and Theressa used the proceeds to buy two acres on Van Ross Drive. They sold one acre and then built a beautiful home on the other acre in 1991. They enjoyed 20 more good years together before Theressa went to the Sandy Regional Care Center with
Alzheimer’s disease. Six years later, on September 21, 2015, she passed away.
Max had Theressa sealed to him in the Oquirrh Mountain Temple on October 27, 2016.
Max has had a long and productive life. He loves people easily and deeply. He has a great sense of humor and a grateful, optimistic attitude. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
He is survived by his son, John Stucki, and his daughters, Carol Aceves, Jeanette Cordova, and Jeri Matheson, as well as his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Country Park 4th Ward, 11215 South 2700 West, South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held before the funeral service at the same location from 10:00 am to 10:45 am. A burial following the services will be held at Redwood Memorial Cemetery at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
