Maurea Ushio Terashima, 94, died on December 13, 2015, in West Jordan, Utah. She was born on April 19, 1921 in Murray, Utah, to Sono and Matajiu Fujiwara Ushio, and married Ben Tsutomu Terashima on October 23, 1943. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two older brothers, Shigeki (Momoko) and Jim (Itomi) Ushio, and is survived by a daughter Maureen Harmston, a son Robert (Karen), grandchildren Aaron Harmston (Kristen), Miyo Strong (Bryan), Bentley Harmston, and Daniel, Seth and Anne Terashima, and great grandchildren Gabe, Dylan and Avery Harmston, and Maurea and Maya Strong.
Maurea grew up on her family’s farm, attending local public schools and then the University of Utah. For a short while, she worked as a secretary and for a local Japanese newspaper before marrying. While raising her children, she assisted her husband in his work as a photographer. She will most be remembered for her quiet devotion to family.
A viewing beginning at 10 AM for family and friends, followed an hour later by an informal service and graveside prayer, will be held at Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery, 3115 East Bengal Boulevard (7800 South), Cottonwood Heights, on Saturday, December 19.
