Maryann Vialpando

April 7, 1950 — December 20, 2016

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother (Nana), Great Grand Mother, and Sister passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at her home in South Salt Lake on December 20, 2016 at the age of 66.
Maryann was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 7, 1950 to Fermin and Evangelina (Maez) Vialpando. Maryann grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and graduated from South High School. She married Victor R. Romero in June 1970, they later divorced. Later in life she met Jeff English and spent over 18 years as his loving companion, traveling and enjoying life until his passing.
She is survived by her daughter Sherina Gooden, and her son Nick Eric Romero (Erika). She had eight grandchildren, Lorica Gooden, Earol (DJ) Gooden Jr., Krysta Church, Nicholas Romero, Victor Romero, Dominick Romero, Rogan Romero, and Dalayna Romero; great grandchildren, Trenton and Sophya, and MANY, MANY, nieces and nephews that she loved each in her own way. Maryann is also survived by her brothers Joe, Ray, Ted, Dave, Mike and Ruben; sisters Linda, Gloria, Rene, Terry, and Lisa. Maryann is preceded in death by her beloved Jeff English; father Fermin Vialpando; mother Evangelina Vialpando; brother Gilbert Vialpando; nephew Tim Herrera and grandson Deric Romero.
Maryann is part of a big, extended family that she loved being surrounded by. She enjoyed visiting with her family and friends drinking coffee, listening to “Oldies” on her jukebox, and cheering on the Utah Jazz. Maryann was well known for her feisty character, and you always knew where you stood with her, but she had a big heart and was a very generous woman. Maryann always made it a point to help her family or friends if they were struggling and those she felt were less fortunate than herself. She had a soft spot for single mothers and did a “Sub for Santa” for a family in need every Christmas for the last 34 years. She gave out of the goodness of her heart and was not looking for any sort of recognition or praise for her good deeds.
