Mary Larrinaga

March 19, 1933 — March 9, 2020

María-Josefa Lejarcegui Inunciaga, 86, died March 9, 2020, in her home in West Jordan, Utah.
She was born on March 19, 1933 to Sotero Lejarcegui Irazabal and Juana Inunciaga Altamira in Ibárruri, Bizkaia (providence of Basque Country of Spain), Euskadi.
She married John Larrinaga in Muxika, Bizkaia, Euskadi on November 18, 1954. John then returned home to the United States and Mary followed later in the early months of 1955 along with friends.
She leaves behind four children: Josephine Kramer (John), Lurdes Larrinaga, Carmen Larrinaga (Chad Hoover), Bobby Larrinaga; seven grandchildren: Stacey, Jimmy (Alise), Ryly (Daniel), Saige, Dalton, Cedar, and Wyatt; and two great-grandsons: Coleton and Luke.
She is survived by her siblings in the Basque Country: María Paz, Juanita, and Jesus (María Sol), and siblings in Boise, Idaho: Serafina Totorica and Joe Lejarcegui.
Preceded in death by her husband John, son Andy (Jodi), grandson Zac, and brother Alfredo Mateo.
She came to Utah in 1954 and lived in Bingham Canyon. She became an American citizen in 1977, and that was a very proud moment for her. She loved to fish, cook, and clean house. She was always happiest when surrounded by family. She was a member of the Basque Club of Utah and was proud of how big she could grow her tomatoes. She had to pick them faster than the dog could eat them.
We would like to thank Valeo Home Health & Hospice and Home Instead Senior Care, especially Tanya, Regina, Brooke, and Angie for making her stay at home possible. She loved you all.
Ama/Amuma, we will miss you greatly and especially your homemade Basque meals. No one ever went hungry in your house, strangers included.
UPDATE: Due to the current health situation in the United States, all services and viewings have been cancelled (as of March 13, 2020).
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Basque Club of Utah, c/o Catherine Barajas, 2323 Green St, Salt Lake City, UT 84106.
