Mary Furse Barton

January 10, 1935 — December 11, 2020

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Furse Barton died December 11, 2020 in North Logan, Utah.  Mary was born January 10, 1935 in Salt Lake City to LaRue Robinson Seager and Ernest Harry Furse.  She was their fifth child and only daughter.  She graduated from East High School.
She met her future husband James “A” Barton in class at BYU.  They married June 3, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple.  Together they raised their five children.  They lived briefly in California and Utah Valley and eventually settled in Holladay where they lived for the next 55 years.  For the past few years, she lived at the Abbington Assisted Living Facility in Holladay, and then the Gables Assisted Living Facility in North Logan.
She was very active, enjoying bowling, tennis, and especially golf for many years.  In later years she loved swimming almost daily and made many friends at the Holladay Recreation Center.
She was an accomplished seamstress and made her own clothes, as well as clothing for her family.  She was a master of the needle arts creating beautiful cross-stitch and needlepoint items; many of which were donated to the festival-of-trees.  She also made many hand-knit sweaters.  She also learned to paint in watercolors and acrylics.  Her home and many others displayed her cross-stitch handiwork and many of her paintings.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout her life, and served in many callings, especially in the ward and stake primary organizations.  Her virtuous life reflected a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She was proud that all of her children served honorable missions for the Church.  Once her children began their own families, she happily welcomed each new daughter-in-law and grandchild.  She loved holding those babies!  And she was so proud as her grandchildren served missions, were married, and began their families.
Mary was gregarious and outgoing, and was never shy to meet new people and make new friends.  She greeted everyone with a twinkle in her eye and a mischievous smile.  She had many friends who will miss her cheerful greeting.
She was devoted to her family and loved to visit with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She also enjoyed family history and spent many hours researching her ancestors and ensuring their temple work was complete.  She wrote her parents’ biographies which, along with her extensive scrapbooks, provide a lasting keepsake for her progeny.
Her beloved husband, Jim, died in 2018.  She was also preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Orin, Eldon, Clare, and Tyrrell.  She is survived by her five children: Rod (Lisa) of Logan; Kevin (Janet) of Idaho Falls; Brett (Lisa) of Logan; Michele of Taylorsville; and Kyle of Denver, fourteen grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 at 11:00 am at the Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary.  Due to the pandemic, attendance will be limited to immediate family and no viewing will be held.  The services may be viewed via Zoom at (Link to be added) Interment will be next to her husband in the Memorial Holladay Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Humanitarian Fund of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
