Mary Estrella Gallegos

Mary Estrella Gallegos, age 84, died on August 24, 2020 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on July 1, 1936 in El Rito, New Mexico to Antonio and Predicanda Gonzales. She married Arthur L. Gallegos on December 10, 1956.
She loved entertaining and cooking wonderful holiday meals for family and friends. Mary loved shopping for antiques, furniture, and clothes; and she even owned her own thrift store and Mexican restaurant. She played Bingo at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with her homies and her grandchildren called her “Bingo Baby” and she took many money trips to Wendover with her father and sister Christina. She worked for the Salvation Army for over 20+ years.
She is survived by her husband Arthur L., sons Arthur Jr., Kelly, and Tyler; daughters Tammy [Tammy’s children: Toccarra, Melissa, Jennifer, Toi, Juli, Dashawn, and Max (Tammy’s grandchildren: Arturo, Daisy, Kyla, Dillon, and Kassidy) Tammy’s great grandchild Julian] and Lisa (Randy) Williams [Lisa’s children: Larry, Daje, and Jerale (Lisa’s grandchildren: Jordyn, Amiah, and Damarious)]; and sister Christina Pena.
She is preceded in death by both parents, sisters Lucy and Susie; brothers Ben, Isaac, and Isaac “Mario”.
Mary would want all her friends and family attending to wear clothes that are comfortable and casual – please not so much black, sad clothing.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Salvation Army, Huntsman Cancer Institute, or the American Diabetes Association.
An evening viewing will be held Sunday August 30, 2020 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123. A funeral service will be held the following day at 10:00 AM with a viewing one hour prior, all at the same location with the interment to follow. In compliance with Salt Lake County’s mandate on facial coverings, masks are required. Social distancing will be enforced. For those unable to attend, Memorial Mortuaries and Cemeteries is offering a live stream of the funeral on Zoom.
