Mary Elaine Jackson Horsley passed away at home on March 2, 2025 in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. She was born on December 17, 1943 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ray William Jackson and Mildred Anne Smith. She married Jack Ferrell Horsley on September 15, 1961.
Elaine was the Best Grandma EVER! She loved children, and her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchild were the light of her life. Even at the end she would smile if she saw children. She was a master crafter and created wonderful gifts for people she loved. She also served on the executive board for the Festival of Trees and as PTA President. Elaine also served as a ward and stake Relief Society president, stake Young Women president, and as an instructor in gospel doctrine and temple preparation for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Elaine loved every holiday, no matter how small, and she decorated for and celebrated each one. She also loved car rides. It didn’t matter where or when, she just loved to go. Bear Lake was her favorite place. She was always the happiest when she was there surrounded by loved ones and playing games at the kitchen table.
Elaine is survived by her husband Jack Ferrell Horsley and their children, Julie (Tom) Thorum, Jeff (Tori) Horsley, Jennifer (Allen) Atkinson and Jason (Emily) Horsley. They have 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Sherrie Jackson.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Ray William Jackson and Mildred Anne Smith; siblings Fay Young, Marba Evans, Grant Murray, Joan Laws, Billy Ray Jackson and Jay Jackson.
Thank you to the hospice caregivers – Benjamin, Eliza, Sheila, and Diane for their kindness and love while they cared for Elaine.
