Marvin “Butch” Powell

June 28, 1959 — January 5, 2020

Marvin “Butch” A. Powell Jr., 60, passed away January 5. 2020 in Taylorsville, Utah. Butch was born June 28, 1959 to Marvin A. Powell Sr. and Viola “Wilma” Farmer. He was the eldest of their three boys. Butch was raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and learned to be a hard worker from a young age. He married Camile Barnes in August of 1982, though they later divorced. While married, they were blessed with their daughter, Camijo.
Butch started working in his father’s foundry when he was a boy, working with special materials such as sand and metals to create castings for different mechanical parts from all over the country. Later, he also worked at his Uncle “Red’s” foundry, as well.
Butch had many talents. He was an amazing artist who entered many of his works into the Utah State Fair and won numerous awards. He liked to doodle and share his drawings with others. He was also extremely handy and resourceful; he could fix or build anything he needed using just the materials he had available to him.
In addition to his talents, he also had many interests. He loved working on cars and was a pit crew member for Custom Industries Stock Car Racing for several years. Butch also enjoyed exploring new hobbies such as leatherworking, painting, drawing, and more recently, collecting and polishing pennies to find that special rare one! He was a good cook and loved big family dinners and get-togethers. His favorite things to eat were his Grandma Sevy’s stuffing and his mom’s cream pies. Butch loved country music, cowboy boots, fried chicken (the Colonel) and fishing.
Most of all, he loved and took pride in his beautiful granddaughter. Butch loved hearing her happy screams and giggles as he pulled her behind his 4 wheeler in the snow, deliberately crashing her into the drifts. He loved teasing his granddaughter, spending time with her and loved to listen to her read him stories.
We will miss his funny made up songs he liked to sing and his silly sense of humor.
He is survived by his brother Bill (Melissa) Powell, brother Kevin Powell, daughter Camijo (Colby) Allred and granddaughter Madison Allred.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
We would like to thank all the staff members and residents at BrightWorks Villa Assisted Living of Pleasant Grove, Avalon West Rehabilitation, and South Valley Dialysis for the care they gave to Butch.
A special thank you to all the many people who have shown their love and support through donations we have received.
