Marty Dean Petersen

October 29, 1966 — September 17, 2023

We unexpectedly lost a wonderful man on September 17, 2023.  Marty was born in Battle Creek, Iowa on October 29, 1966.  He was the son of Karen and Jim Hoffman and Gary and Sandy Petersen.  Marty lived his life in Nebraska, Iowa, and Salt Lake City.
Marty received a bachelor’s degree in political science and several associate degrees from the University of Utah.  Marty was very interested in learning and had a lot of books.
Marty had many interests including traveling to Europe and making many friends in the German nation. He loved to visit southern Utah and Colorado.  He was also involved with the Barnum and Bailey Circus.  Marty also had a passion for railroads and with this passion, he also was involved in model railroading and spent much of his time volunteering at the Midvale City Museum.
Marty’s real love in life was his love for his Shetland Sheepdogs.  Throughout his life, he was the proud friend of six Shelties.  We know they will all be waiting for him at the Rainbow Bridge.
The family and friends will miss Marty very much.  He was a wonderful son and brother and contributed much to society and the environment during his short time on earth.
Marty is survived by his parents Karen Hoffman (James), and Gary Petersen (Sandy); siblings Tim Petersen (Lisa), Greg Petersen (Michelle), Chris Hoffman (Carolyn), Daryl Hoffman (Tara), and Don Hoffman (Rachel).  Marty also had several nieces and nephews who were his shining stars, including Gaven Petersen (Brennan), Masen Petersen (Jocelyn), Mikaela Petersen (Bailey), April Prieto (Moses), Brittany Petersen (Evan), Zachary Petersen (Cara), and Tyler Petersen.
