Marlene Leone Kirkham 10/12/42 ~ 10/11/17. Our dear daughter, sister, cousin, aunt and friend
passed away October 11, 2017 at her home in San Jose, California. Marlene was born October
12, 1942 in Salinas, California to Leone Wayman Kirkham. Later Marlene and her brother,
Marvin James Kirkham, were sealed to Leone Wayman Kirkham and Burdette Alton Kirkham in
the Salt Lake Temple.
Marlene attended Granite High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, then furthered her education at
Salt Lake Community College. She worked for IBM in San Jose as a valued employee and
team player for 32 years until her retirement in June of 2005. Marlene loved details and like her
brother Marv and parents, demonstrated exactness and precision in all that she did.
Marlene was fiercely loyal to her family and friends and extremely honest in her dealings. She
exhibited great courage as she battled health issues, yet never a complaint was heard.
Marlene took special interest in others and served quietly. She was a lover of nature and beauty
and sought to improve the environment surrounding her. Marlene’s love for her cats, her cars,
gardening and special trips to San Francisco to enjoy the theatre and musicals brought joy to
her life. She loved living near her Wayman cousins, Kay, Kathy, Bobby, Richard and Phillip.
Marlene was especially close to her older brother, Marvin. Her nephews and niece and their
families were a great source of joy for Marlene.
Marlene was preceded in death by her mother Leone, her father Burdette, and her brother
Marvin. She is survived by her sister-in-law Carolyn Kirkham Greene (Richard); nephews Ryan
(Jodilynne), Joshua (Ashley), Adam (Leslee), Jacob (Whitney) and niece Sarah Metcalfe
(Benjamin).
The Kirkham family would like to express thanks to the many friends and family members who
supported and loved Marlene through the years.
