Mark William Shelton

December 14, 1953 — February 16, 2020

14 December 1953 – 16 February 2020 – Mark William Shelton passed away on 16 February 2020 in Kearns, Utah from complications of dementia. Mark was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to William Doyle and Joanne Mildred Sartor Shelton. Mark grew up on Smiley Drive in Taylorsville and graduated from Cottonwood High School in 1972. He was an Eagle Scout and served an LDS mission from 1973-1975 to Taiwan, developing a love for its people, culture, and the Chinese language, which he used throughout his life. He married Rinda Suzanne Clarke on March 31, 1976. They had 7 children and later divorced. He married Kathryn Ann Rice Anderson on September 21, 2011, gaining a son and more grandchildren. Mark loved Kathryn dearly and his face would light up when she entered the room. They cared for each other throughout the remainder of his life. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he served in many callings but his most favorite was being a Boy Scout leader. He loved helping young men learn and grow in the scouting program. He enjoyed camping, building things, gardening, white-water rafting, and scuba diving. He was always inventing things to go along with these hobbies and was the ultimate handyman. His favorite holidays were Halloween and Christmas. He loved to scare all the neighborhood kids at Halloween with his spooky yard. His Christmas decorations were abundant, and he especially loved to collect nativities and nutcrackers. Mark loved reading, especially westerns, and his favorite authors were Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour. His work with Marshall Industries took him to 49 of 50 states.
Mark is survived by his wife Kathryn, his children Stephen (Jessie), Rinda (Jeffrey Hardy), Brian (Christina), Daniel, Stephanie (Nicholas Harding), Spencer (Jessica), Robyn Shelton, and Don (Jennifer) Anderson. His 17 grandchildren Grant, Claire, Katie, Emma, Evan “Edge”, Matthew, Penny, Theodore “Teddy”, Don, Aaron, Camille, Grace, Ethan, Quinn, Eliott, Grant and Mason “Itai”. He is also survived by his siblings Diane (Doug Mendenhall), Lee (Marjorie), Kaye (LaVar Jolley), John (Shauna), Susan (Dale Phelps), Don (Rachelle) Glenn and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Larry, and his sister Jolene Glenn.
We wish to express our appreciation to the staff at Summit Senior Living for the care they gave Mark and the love and respect they showed him.
