Hear Ye – Hear Ye…The Chatfield kids are orphans.
We thought for sure he would live to be 100, he gave it his best shot, but alas it was not meant to be. His strong and sturdy body simply wore out. We are eternally grateful, that for a good part of 93 years we got to be his kids. Dad was born in Winchester Indiana, on July 5th 1927, the only child to the Reverend Chauncy C. and Flora Naomi Chatfield. He was a Preachers kid, and therefore had the unenviable job of being the congregations obedient and dutiful son. This was a challenge for a spirited, killer handsome, cool as all get out, young boy. He had many a story about rebelling from an early age. He left home at 16, joined the Navy at 17 and was a veteran and proud member of the “Greatest Generation having served in both WWII and the Korean War.  Mark was truly a “self-made man”. On his own, at such a young age, he had no choice but to quickly learn to fend for himself. Life could have gotten the better of him but instead he met a girl.  The girl who would become his wife, Grace Timbimboo. Like many couples in the 40’s, madly in love they married just a short 9 months after meeting. This union lasted 58 years until Grace’s passing in 2006.
Mark excelled in his career as a Logistics Specialist for the Airforce, working at Hill Air Force in Utah and McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento California. After retiring from government work, he helped launch Chatfield Construction Co. with his son Ross. Mark is survived by his four children, Diane Holbrook, Ross Chatfield (Denise), Randy Chatfield (Cheryle), Sharon Moncur (Donald). 7 Grandchildren, Dak, Ivy, Sharlene, Stacey, Brandy, Kade and Ryan. The great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren just keep on coming. Preceded in death by his sweetheart Grace Chatfield, great granddaughter Sydney Elle Wilson and parents Chauncy and Flora Chatfield.
Dad was always a critical thinker, intellectual speaker, politically astute, a woman’s advocate long before woman’s lib and above all a gentleman in the truest sense of the word. He loved, and supported his family, we will miss his strong influence and enormous heart.
